Barb Wired
Curiosity about Bev Hogue paintings often stirs questions about the blue motif and what inspires the titles of these portraits of women from a distant but familiar universe. With Barb Wired, a collector arrived at an art show, saw the piece and immediately had to have it because, she said: “That’s me!” There was no question that the wonder was over for her.
Gotham Kitty
A fascination with comic book heroes, animated cartoon figures, B-movie reels and vintage toys produced in Bev Hogue a deep connection with expressive imagination. These influences are alive in blue art creations such as "Gotham Kitty", a study of Batgirl in full Beluxe mode.
Blue in the Face
25 years ago, Bev Hogue began creating portraits of fading film stars and other imaginary characters in a monochrome blue style that launched the highly collectible series Blue in the Face. A signature work from the collection includes "Mary Tyler Mood," a 12 in. x 12 in. acrylic work on canvas that defined the dark humour of the series. Through the Exploring Blue section of Beluxe.com, the artist revisits some key pieces in an exploration of the shades of blue.
Winter Thaw 2026
It will be a hot one next weekend for Bev Hogue’s Winter Thaw sale. The annual show from Feb. 13 to Feb. 16 is an invitation to drop by the studio/gallery to celebrate 25 years of blue art creations. View paintings here at beluxe.com or come by the studio to share in the celebration and tour Winter Thaw in person.
Bohemian blouses
Bev Hogue channels her passion for fabric and thread into a new line of Blue Bohemian blouses. Hand-stitched by the artist and featuring images from some of her favourite paintings, these Blue Boho blouses are richly textured frocks that recall the Renaissance era and are inspired by artist's Romanian ancestry.
